Mkulu Kei Horse Trails

Wild Coast Photo Gallery

Experience the South African, Eastern Cape Wild Coast on your horse-riding holiday with Mkulu Kei horse trails, along with exploration and an equine adventure. The Transkei South Africa is one of the most beautiful places in the world for a horse-riding trail.

All following photographs of the beauty of the Wild Coast and diversity of terrain were captured while on various horse trails with Mkulu Kei showing you what you will see and experience.

See the Jacaranda shipwreck, a must see to anyone visiting the Wild Coast  Transkei. An adventure, riding horses on the beach with the powerful notorious sea crashing up against the cliffs formatting extraordinary shapes in the rocks, reminding us of just why this coast has claimed so many ships. Explore the terrain and hidden valleys blanketed with thick indigenous forests cut in the African continent by rushing water making its way to the ocean via young rivers and tidal estuaries. Among secluded bays, long wide stretches of beach sand and beautiful estuaries your only human contact could be the odd fisherman or a passing group hikers as they make their way across the beach sand. On horseback we have the advantage of four surefooted feet and can scramble over sand dunes and experience the ocean view from above, inland the contoured hills opening up to a wide range of scenery and equestrian terrain to explore. A land of rolling hills, thatched huts and smiling people.

Wait a while, breath the fresh air, absorb the sights and sounds as you and your horse stand on high rise cliffs looking at the colours of Africa, watching dolphins and whales in the sea below. Witness an African sunset the orange and pink splashed across the sky, at night a million stars. This is a special part of our African continent, Africa at its best.

The Wild Coast; a wealth of scenic beauty for the adventurous horse riding visitor to discover, no cars hooting or smog diluting the picture, just you and a few friends experiencing nature at its best on horseback. The Wild Coast Transkei, in the Eastern Cape province a scenic underdeveloped coast experienced in the saddle, the best horse riding countryside and the birthplace and traditional home of Nelson Mandela, former president and the man who lead South Africa into our new democracy.

On your riding holiday witness the primitive beauty of the Wild Coast with her relaxed atmosphere. The local people you meet along the way are friendly and welcoming. Time slows down here, giving you an opportunity to unwind. The magnificent Wild Coast with little to no development infrastructure is undeveloped and unexploited. An area of natural beauty that has not been destroyed by urban development and having successfully resisted the temptation of developers. Protected for years by limited road access, the landscape and environment is now fiercely protected by both outside environmentalists and members of local community. The Wild Coast in South Africa is surely one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Come ride horses with Us ...

Where else could you ride quality horses through such beauty and be one of a handful of riders on the beach? Only on the Wild Coast with us. Mkulu Kei Horse Trails and riding holidays. Your equestrian holiday of choice. Take a moment and look at these pictures of what you can expect to see on your African safari riding adventure with Mkulu Kei Horse Trails.

Africa is well known for her wildlife. "The big five" - Elephant, Rhinoceros, Leopard, Cape Buffalo and Lion being the most difficult to hunt on foot, but hunting is not her only jewel. It is the rhythm of her people, the sound of her drums, the insects, thunderstorms, birds and animals, but it is her colours that makes Africa special and unique. The Wild Coast Transkei offers you a splendid array of different colours, as the grasses and plants change colours from khaki to emerald green according to the seasons, the ocean from grey to turquoise and the sky every shade of blue to a million shades of orange, purple, pink, yellow, grey and black both at sunset and sunrise as the light reflects off the dust and moisture in the sky. Coupled to this is the variety of textures and patterns from the smooth of the pristine beaches to the rough of the weathered rock formations. No captions were added to the photos below - the pictures speak for themselves.

There are so many equestrian safari holidays and equine riding vacations, why choose us?

The Wild Coast, South Africa's best kept secret is off the popular tourist routes and has remained relatively untouched and unspoilt yet is an ideal tourist destination. The coastline a wild and sparsely inhabited area consisting of sandy and rocky shores, rolling hills scattered with Xhosa huts. Witchcraft and superstition play a large part in the lives of the people. The contoured land is now communally managed under the tribal chiefs. Mud and grass huts are grouped in family units with no real agriculture or crops and few to no fences. It is a region in which the influence of the warm, south moving Agulhas Current of the Indian Ocean is greatest, countering the effects of the cold, northwards migrating Benguela Current. Hot summers with mild & dry winters the mixing of tropical warm and Antarctic cold waters along the coastline, coupled with the climate changes as winter rainfall is replaced by predominantly summer one, makes for a most diverse conditions, there is a great diversity of plants and animals.
