Mkulu Kei Horse Tack Shop
Mkulu Kei Equestrian Custom Made Riding
Equipment |
Established in 1998
Cher-a-Don Mkulu Kei horse trails & riding holidays offers you personalized
horse riding holidays on the Wild Coast Transkei in South Africa. We go the
extra mile to make your equestrian vacation exceptional and to make sure that
both our riders and horses are happy and comfortable. The best of equestrian
and horse riding holiday safaris in South Africa, Mkulu Kei horse tack shop
and riding apparel was first established to supply our own needs and due to
client interest we have now started selling to the public.
Our own horse saddlery and equine supplies department now offers you the
opportunity to buy quality saddles, bridles, halters, numnahs, saddle
pads, chaps, horse printed T-shirts and other horse riding products direct
from the Cher-a-Don Mkulu Kei factory.
Manufacturers
and suppliers of equestrian riding equipment and lightweight saddles ideal
for pleasure, polo cross and endurance horse riding, we offer a saddle for
sale directly to you the public, where purchasing quality pony or horse
riding gear does not have to cost you a fortune.
Saddles and horseriding tack for sale directly from
the manufacturer and custom made for you to your personal requirements. We
sell a light weight polocrosse, endurance saddle, working or leisure riding
saddles in leather or synthetic, durable fabric in black or brown. Buy
riding equipment from a horse trail company that specializes in trail
rides and understands the horse’s needs. After spending hours in the
saddle, we understand how important a comfortable saddle must be to both
horse and rider.
In trying to find the best quality saddle for our
requirements, a saddle suitable for endurance riding for long distance
equine riding, and having experienced problems finding one for our needs,
we researched the ultimate saddle, a good general purpose, all round
saddle. Shopping for riding equipment we encountered similar shortfalls in
saddles available in the market place as you. With the long hours our
horses are under saddle we required a saddle, not yet available in South
Africa, that catered for our requirements. A synthetic comfortable, low
maintenance, durable working saddle. We tried and tested different styles,
noted what worked and what caused problem areas, but we could not find the
perfect saddle at a realistic price, so we made our own. Through trial and
error we manufactured and perfected a long distance saddle that is a cross
between an English and a stock saddle, taking the best of both designs to
manufacture the perfect trail saddle for our use and to sell to you. By
putting the saddles through extreme conditions, ironing out the problem
areas and improving the saddle's performance under critical eyes, we now
have manufactured a saddle of quality, good enough to carry the Mkulu Kei Cher-a- Don name.

Its
our attention to detail that makes your equine experience with us in a
whole new class, whether it is the quality of the horse you are
allocated to ride, or our unique approach to teaching, we go that
extra mile to make your horse ride worth telling your friends about.
Mkulu Kei horse trails, a safari equine holiday
along the South African, Wild Coast, riding horses on the beach and
swimming through the rivers and estuaries. The hot African sun baking
down with the ocean breeze a cooling effect. Sand, salt and rain
making your equine adventure special for you but incredibly hard on
our tack especially the saddles. Leather saddles need to be maintained
especially with the salt water. Keeping the leather in good condition
requires hours of tack cleaning, however the more one conditions the
leather the quicker
the stitching rots. We purchased synthetic saddles and where not happy
with them at all, then with the growing demand of our rides we found
ourselves in the position of having to buy a large number of saddles
at the same time and constantly replacing the bridles. With clients
ranging from very young tiny children through to large adults we have
to carry a wide selection of different size saddles. Our clientele is
as diverse as the terrain we ride through, and as a large number of
our clients are new to riding and the number of hours our horses are
under saddle we required a saddle that is not only comfortable for the
riders but for the horses too. We found that the average beginner
rider was sitting on the back of the saddle and not in the seat; as a
result the saddle was pushing unevenly on the horses back with the
rider’s unbalanced weight aggravating the situation. The nervous
clients where trying to hang on the front of the saddle
and were sitting incorrectly and were therefore unbalanced.
Our enthusiastic little riders where kicking the
saddle flap and not the horse or pony. The result; we started making our
own saddles designed to be light, durable and practical, keeping in mind
that it needed to be both comfortable for horse and rider.
We are very happy with The Mkulu Kei saddles,
having tried and tested a range of riding saddles, we required a special
general-purpose saddle that would fit different horse’s shapes but more
hardwearing than any we could find.
We researched what we required in a saddle and

adapted the best features of the English and
Australian saddle to meet our high requirements for both horse and
rider. We have for some time been making chaps, saddle blankets,
numnhas, girths, webbing and leather bridles and halters, for our
own use so it was a natural progression to also manufacture saddles for
our own use. The Mkulu Kei saddles have now been tested and used on the
horse trails under extreme conditions and so Mkulu Kei tack shop was
established from our riding clients interest and tack is now for sale
directly from the manufacturer to you.
|
|
Our trails demand that our riding tack is extremely
durable and hardwearing, we put our horse equipment through conditions
tack would never normally be expected to endure. Wooden trees and leather
saddles are not made to swim in salty river estuaries and the sea. Having
tried numerous brands and makes of saddles we needed to find a more hardy
working saddle at a good price. Spending months testing saddles we
diverted our energies and researched what we required in a saddle and
started manufacturing our own. Riding clients made enquiries as to the
availability and where they to could be purchased and Mkulu Kei tack shop
was born. We keep a small stock and are more than happy to discuss your
personal requirements and manufacture especially for you.

Would you swim with your saddle? |
All saddles are available in the Annamart design,
with a narrower waist/twist designed for women riders making the saddle
narrower in front of the seat without effecting the fit on the horses back.
Designed to be more comfortable for the lady rider especially over long
periods in the saddle, they are great for men and younger riders too.

Foal Weaning Halter

Hi Cheryl
|
Firstly THANKYOU for saving boht mine and my
mare's sanity !!!!!! When I found your site I had just 'stopped' the
weaning process, my filly was almost 8 months and mare was really not
holdig up well - giving all to babe.
I didn't want to do the whole 'seperation'
thing in terms of moving either of them off the property as I do
believe that mom/baby connection is a good one and is needed a lot
longer than we often realise - anyhow without giving you a bedtime
read here. I had tried to start them off by keeping in seperate
paddocks for a while and then discovered that, contrary to what my
grooms said, they had discovered the 'mom, you stand there by the
fence and I'll just feed through the rails' method !!! soooo then
it was seperate paddocks seperated by another paddock during the
day and then back together at night (plan was to do this gradually)
- filly was fine not stressed but my mare was absolutely distraught
which obviously concerned me terribly - I managed to do this for 5
days and couldn't take it anymore and put them back together full
time. I then googled "foal weaning halters" and magically your site
appeared as the last one on the first page of results. The rest of this
bit you know :) I put the halter on Ambika on Saturday and left all
horses out together as normal. Within about half an hour Kersey (mom)
had 'made' her own mind up about suckling and would not let little
one near her hindquarter (no matter how much slooshing and 'awwww mom
please' went on !). |
|
Mom's milk is drying up beautifully (have cut her
concentrate feed by half but left all else as is - horses out all day in
huge paddocks with grass etc), babe has 'forgotten' about suckling and all
is well in my little herd - thank goodness - I do not consider myself a
'paranoid' horse owner - more an 'in touch' one and for me this is the
absolute in stress free weaning - so big big thanks to you for this and I
appreciate 500% that we have gone this route. My mare and filly are both
happy, filly moved into her own stable from Saturday night (mom can see
her) and no stress for either of them at all. The only negative with the
halter is that her friends amongst the herd are not too happy with her
approaching them either now - she's obviously inadvertantly 'pricked' a
couple of them when saying hi etc but no-one being untoward with her so
overall that's a very minor negative in comparison to the trauma we would
have inflicted by carrying on the traditional methods.
Thanks so much - I will keep the halter on for at
least another 3 weeks ?????
And I will spread the word far and wide for you.
Keep well and very keen to come and holiday with
you at some stage - not this year perhaps next - will put in my 'shopping
basket'
If there is anything you want me to do from my end
to help you promote this then please let me know and where I can I will be
only to pleased to help out.
Many blessings - Sharon van Rensburg

Hiya
ONE HAPPILY WEANED FILLY and a very relieved owner
and mare - no stress, no fuss, no bother - you've got a winner there I
have to say. The whole process has been totally stress free and is
completed. Halter is off, Ambika not even interested and mom Kersey not
stressed to max through being seperated from her beloved child !!!
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU you probably do have an
idea as to how stressful the 'beginning' process of trying to wean her was
- when doing the seperation way - I thank the day I googled "equine
weaning halters" and found your site. You are a God send to mares, foals
and owners. Market this big time because it works.
Much much appreciated and you can send people to me
for referral - I have been talking about your halter non-stop.
Have a fabulous day Sharon van Rensburg Direct Email :
