The centre is situated in a private game park with an abundance of Impala and Blesbok, Warthog and a tremendous array of birds and sightings of zebra, giraffe and rhino and have an abundance of plant life including a cycad forest and a Clivia colony. A beautiful location and venue for a group outing encouraging team spirit and personal growth.

Cher-a-Don Adventure Centre - situated in the Eastern Cape, South Africa an hour from East London on the Kei Mouth Road (R349). Near Kei Mouth and Morgan Bay on 800ha of pristine forest and open farm land and only 9km from the Wild Coast Transkei.

At Cher-a-Don we have the ideal setting for providing all types of adventurous activities.

The centre is aimed at school outings, office functions, diversion journey and church getaways and youth camps as well as corporate teambuilding and end-of-year outings. The activities offered are geared towards the age group and ability of the group concerned. Our facilities are an ideal outdoor venue for school leadership camps, sports teams and business tours and designed to maximise the opportunities of being in an outdoor learning setting, working on both personal and team strategies. Teachers with their students and business leaders and colleagues are challenged with new and demanding activities which are facilitated to help them to develop and improve their personal skills and promote active and healthy lifestyles. The physical challenges of life in the outdoors help to develop self-reliance, personal responsibility and teach life skills. Teambuilding encourages leaders, businesses and teams to find their motivation and become more dynamic for optimal performance with synergistic benefits of tapping into each other’s strengths & skills.

Cher-a-Don Adventure Centre (Lalapanzi) - situated in the Eastern Cape, South Africa just 72km from East London on the Kei Mouth Road (R349). Near Kei Mouth and Morgan Bay on 800ha of pristine forest and open farm land and only 9km from the Wild Coast Transkei.

Adventure and teambuilding activities are accompanied by qualified and experienced guides. Now run in conjunction with Mkulu Kei horse trails, a fun filled adventure center which falls under the Cher-a-Don stamp of Quality and Authenticity.

The adventure centre, having been successfully run by Anne Fairey and Howard Champ for many years, will now be run by Don Fraser, Cheryl Giacchetti and assisted by our staff.

The facilities are presently being revamped and upgraded and in time buildings will be repainted and furnishings replaced where need. This will be done on an ongoing bases and will take a bit of time. We are busy upgrading the current activity program and will constantly be developing new activities to make your wilderness adventure camp at Cher-a- Don Teambuilding Adventure Centre previously Lalapanzi a must do adventure escape for all fitness levels, sizes, and ages.

Please be aware: That although every effort by the management and staff of Cher-a-Don (Lalapanzi) Adventure Centre is made to ensure the safety of participants and other parties while at the centre it is an adventure centre and there are dangers and risks involved in participation in the activities and by entering the property you do so knowing and accepting the risks and indemnify Cher-a-Don, Lalapanzi and Mkulu Kei, its owners, agents and/or servants against any claim of any nature by yourself, your family or agents in the event of accident or loss of any kind arising from:

• Action and or use of activities.

• Advice or instruction given.

• Any other possible cause or action.

Day trips to Cher-a-Don (Lalapanzi) adventure venue for a minimum of 8 people can be arranged. Prior booking of activities must be confirmed and booking essential. Large groups can be accommodated. An ideal place to hold a teambuilding day with all the amenities and services available.

Paintball is R80 per person this includes 1pkt  of paint balls and R10 per pkt of 20 thereafter. Our Paintball activity is tactical and goal orientated in an all natural environment.

Horse riding R250 per person riding through the game, you will need to be a competent rider. Beginners can be accommodated in a controlled area.

Abseiling R120 per person / minimum charge R240.Our abseil experience takes place over looking the Guqura River off a 25-metre cliff and is suitable for all ages.

Overnight camp at Cher-a-Don team building adventure centre for a minimum of 10 people can be arranged. We can accommodate groups of up to 64 persons over night and 6 facilitators. Prior booking of activities must be confirmed and booking essential. Please contact us to discuss your groups program, dynamics and dietary requirements.

Abseiling, obstacle course, kloofing, canoeing, raft building, orienteering, hiking, icebreakers, introduction to horses Equine Assisted Therapy Learning and fun activities will be included in your daily rate while paint ball and horse riding in the game are optional extras.

The stamp of Quality and Authenticity

Overnight rates Our rates for two or more nights are R235 per person per night, for full catering, which includes VAT and 3 meals and 2 teas per day plus all activities except paintball and horse riding. Our rates are R250 per person for one night, for full catering, which includes 3 meals and 2 teas per day plus all activities except paintball and horse riding. Self-catering R150 per person per night including all activities except paintball and horse riding.

We do not provide evening entertainment and do not have television at the centre.  We do however have a projector and screen and a television for DVDs on prior request. Please note that responsibility for the welfare of the children remains that of the accompanying adults, especially at night. We have a open pit fire area for relaxation and discussions, a center for reflection and story telling. Wood will be provided.

Accommodation

Our visitors are accommodated in two dormitories with bunk beds to accommodate 28 boys and bunks for 26 girls all under one roof. If you require sleeping facilities for one sex we can accommodate using both dormitories and can accommodate a further 10 individuals by using one of the facilitators rooms. Each dormitory has its own ablutions and visitors are required to bring their own bedding, pillows, sleeping bags, etc. as well as personal toiletries and sufficient changes of clothes in case of bad weather, at least 2 towels, a costume for the dam and good walking shoes, hats, sun block and water bottles. It is recommended that the participating visitors bring old clothes.

Lockers are provided for personal belongings and toilet rolls are provided.

Group leaders, educators, officials and facilitators are accommodated in two bedrooms both with bathrooms en suite. These rooms are in the same building as the dormitories with a further room without bathroom on suite, outside the main building that can be used if necessary. We provide linen and towels for facilitators/supervisors.

Meals

Large dinning room and kitchen facilities, which doubles up for indoor activities, all crockery and cutlery is provided.

Our meals are home cooked, plentiful and prepared daily and we provide pudding with supper, a cooked breakfast, fruit and biscuits or cake at tea. Juice, tea and coffee are available at all times. Sample menu available on request.

We have done extensive new marketing and have new clients on our books, it has now become imperative for you to book and pay your deposit for your camp well in advance in order to avoid disappointment

• In order to secure a reservation a 50 % deposit is required within 7 days of receipt of invoice, failing which the reservation will lapse and become available to other participants without a written warning.

• The balance of the invoice will be due 21 days before the camp commences and cleared by our bank 7 days before the camp commences. Should the funds not be cleared in time your booking will lapse and we will deem your camp cancelled without written warning and the booked dates be made available to other participants and enquiries.

• Your faxed/e-mailed deposit slip with your name and date confirms your camp booking and indicates to us that you have read and acknowledged the information on this page.

• NB. Please be aware we live in a rural area, without convenient banking facilitates and reliable phone lines for Internet banking, it is important you check that we are aware of all deposits.

REFUNDS

• No deposit or full payments will be refunded unless the client finds a replacement.

• No refunds are given if a participant leaves the camp early for whatever reason

Abseiling and rappelling: It is commonly practiced around the world as a method of descending a rope in a safe and controlled manner. Our abseil experience takes place over looking the Guqura River off a 25-metre cliff (suitable for all ages) with a second site used for special events with a drop of 70 metres.

Anyone can abseil. You don't need strength and the experienced guide will show you an easy technique. The guide also has control over your descent to make sure you descend is safe and controlled.

Obstacle course: A series of obstacles constructed of various types of materials provide challenges to individuals or groups and encourages team spirit. Develops relations with fellow team mates, sharing of strengths, listening skills, endurance, learn to follow instructions, co-operation, patience and understanding, commitment, thought and effective communication. Some challenges on the course help develop leadership skills. The different challenges are used according the objective of the day.

Equine-assisted therapy/learning: Using horses is an effective program for troubled, defiant, and/or rebellious adolescents and teenagers. The bond teens develop with a horse can help them learn alternative, more appropriate, and more effective ways of dealing with life’s challenges. A form of fun therapy where participants learn about themselves, other people and interacting with the world. Its not about teaching riding or horse care skills and the children do not need any previous experience of horses.

Rock climbing: A variety of routes are identified, ranging from testing to more challenging, all are backed up by an instructor and belay operator for safety. A climbing wall, as a part of the obstacle course, is planned for the future.

Hiking both in the Gugura river and on the farm through game, a fun, scenic exercise.

Kloofing: Various marked routes geared for different fitness levels.

Canoeing on the farm dam, for personal development skills and coordination.

Raft building: A perfect exercise for team building development for a youth or corporate group. In teams, you will be challenged to build a raft using limited materials and your personal and leadership skills. Once built, your team will then take to the water and achieve your mission around the farm dam without sinking!!

Orienteering: If you are ready for a challenge that is both mental and physical and gets you off the beaten track, then orienteering is for you! You will learn to read and interpret a variety of specialist orienteering maps and use these to help you navigate interesting and challenging routes through forest, rivers, kloofs and open farmland. This activity is used to improve your navigation skills, team work and as a stepping-stone to participation in competitive events.

Target Shooting: Use blow pipes, catapult or paintball guns to shoot at a target.

Bush art: Fun activity that creates awareness of our environment

Volley ball fun team relaxation.

Group Dynamics, incentive activities and icebreaker activities all creating a realization that we need each other, team strengths as well as effective communication and problem solving.

There are literally hundreds of teambuilding activities that can be used to achieve different objectives and outcomes.

Spiders Web, Jacobs ladder, rope courses, tyre shuffle, traffic Jam, beam change, mine field, wooden board, blindfold square, tripod crossing, totem pole teamwork and many more.

The type of activity used will depend on the following factors:

Bush Camp: A night under the stars the aim of bush camp is to increase resilience, independence, understanding, survival skills and leadership skills.

Solitude: Affording each camper the opportunity to record feelings, hopes, dreams and aspirations for the future, reflection on camp and one’s self.

Paintball: We supply the paint ball guns, paintballs and protective eyewear (according to paintball regulations), please bring a change of old clothes - some overalls are available. It is a fun, healthy and technical exercise and involves strategy, teamwork and quick thinking.
