More details about our activities & the objectives
Cher-a-Don "Where every person counts"

Your adventurous venue for a group of any age & fitness level, with lots of fun activities either as a day outing or as a outdoor adventure camp

Abseiling and Rappelling: Abseiling and rappelling is commonly practiced the world over as a method of descending on a rope in a safe and controlled manner. Our abseil experience takes place over looking the Guqura River off a 25-metre cliff (suitable for all ages) with a second site used for special events with a drop of 70 metres.

Anyone can abseil, any age, any fitness. You don't need strength and Don will show you an easy safe technique and Don has control and speed of your descent to make sure your descend is safe and controlled. This activity can be a life changing, a fun experience worth doing. You need to have the self-confidence to step off the edge. For those who have trust issues or a height problem it can be differcult however Don is incredibly patient having once been scared of heights himself and knows just how hard to encourage and to help you. Once over the edge it is a fun activity that is worth experiencing. A great activity for personal growth.

Rock climbing: Rock climbing: A variety of routes are identified, ranging from testing to more challenging, all are backed up by an instructor and belay operator for safety. A climbing wall, as a part of the obstacle course, is planned for the future.

Obstacle Course: A series of obstacles constructed of various types of materials provide challenges to individuals or groups and encourages team spirit. Develops relations with fellow team mates, sharing of strengths, listening skills, endurance, learn to follow instructions, co-operation, patience and understanding, commitment, thought and effective communication. Some challenges on the course help develop leadership skills.

The Different Challenges Are Used According the Objective of the Day

There are so many different obstacles, some encourage working as a team by developing interpersonal skills, leadership and the ability to work together effectively, and help with increased self-confidence, personal self-esteem, courage, group dynamics and encourage cooperation with others. Other obstacles encourage individual life skills and relations, promoting decision-making, solutions, teamwork, character, strength, building and help establish personal boundaries, self awareness and personal growth. Others are designed to motivate self improvement and promote a healthy and active lifestyle. All for leadership, confidence, trust, and strength and help get messages across to the participants that are pertinent to the focusing on behaviour change. The different challenges are adventure based are fun and well received by all, they include some rope activities for balancing, others are more solid for climbing under or over.

Equine-assisted therapy/learning: Using horses is an effective program for troubled, defiant, and/or rebellious adolescents, children and teenagers. The bond teens develop with a horse can help them learn alternative, more appropriate, and more effective ways of dealing with life’s challenges. A form of fun therapy where participants learn about themselves, other people and interacting with the world. It's not about teaching riding or horse care skills and the children do not need any previous experience of horses.

Having the mares running at the Lalapanzi farm we thought we would offer an introduction to horses as an alternative team building activity. The idea was to create an awareness of horses, an education to many who would not otherwise be exposed to equines.

The results where outstanding. We realized that the horses and interacting with horses has the potential to be of great value to our camps especially with the troubled kids and problem adolescents in the form of equine assisted learning. While we educated others about horses, the horses themselves taught the participants and us about the participants enabling us to help them on a more personal level. Horse/human interaction in an environment of fun learning and self discovery and personal development.

For more information, how it works and the incredible results the horses are getting.

Hiking: Hiking both in the Gugura river and on the farm through game. A fun scenic exercise; if we are limited for time we do a shorter hike to the abseil site before abseiling, .

Kloofing: Various marked routes geared for different fitness levels.

Orienteering: Presents challenges to individuals or groups and encourages team spirit. Develops relations with fellow team mates, sharing of strengths, listening skills, endurance, learn to follow instructions, co-operation, patience and understanding, commitment, thought and effective communication.

A challenge that is both mental and physical and gets you off the beaten track. With orienteering you will learn to read and interpret a variety of specialist orienteering maps and use these to help you navigate interesting and challenging routes through forest, rivers, kloofs and open farmland. This activity can be related to having a plan and a direction in your life.

Canoeing and Raft building: Canoeing on the farm dam, for personal development skills and coordination. The raft building a fun exercise for team building development for a youth or corporate group. In teams, you will be challenged to build a raft using limited materials and your personal and leadership skills.

Once built, your team will then take to the water and achieve your mission around the farm dam without sinking!! A activity that develops relations with fellow team mates, sharing of strengths, listening skills, endurance, learn to follow instructions, co-operation, patience and understanding, commitment, thought and effective communication. One of the most popular activities requested.
